Get down to rural areas and plan development

Letters

PAPUA New Guinea is touted as a richest island nation in the Pacific for having its land covered with gold, copper, nickel, gas, oil and other mineral deposits that brings huge income into the country.
Revenue from these resources is supporting the Government’s budget.
But the revenue from these resources and cash crops are not invested in a wise manner.
The money is not used in delivering projects that improve the lives of people.
It is sad to see schools and health facilities deteriorating.
Drug supplies of aid post and health centres and school materials are lacking.
Roads, bridges and other infrastructure are left in shambles.
There are lots of other pressing issues that the country faces.
The quality of life does not reflect that resources that the country has.
This is funny.
Our Government continues to beg for outside help to bail the country out of its financial complications and other pressing issues.
There are some donor agencies that are doing a great job with improving living standards in the country.
One of such organisations is Rotary International.
If other organisations and our local politicians have the heart and passion to develop our community and institutions, they should do what Rotary International is doing.
PNG will develop if politicians get down to the ground level and see what they can do.
Rotary International leaves its comfort zone, gets down right down to the rural areas to understand the challenges and then decide on what to do next.
How will you get to know the needs and problems of a community if you have never been there?
