MORE woman will be recognised for their various contributions to society and national building in an annual award launched yesterday.

The Pride of Papua New Guinea Awards for Women was launched yesterday in Port Moresby by Governor-General Sir Michael Ogio.

The awards are a community service initiative by City Pharmacy Ltd which began in 2007.

The six categories are: the Young PNG award, Bravery and Courage award, Community Spirit award, Care and Compassion award, Environment award and Education/Role model award.

CPL Group chief executive officer Ravi Singh said the company would give the winners a lifelong commitment in whatever projects they needed assistance with.

The assistance is given according to the category they win.

Sir Michael thanked the company and supporting partners for creating avenues for the general public to recognise and nominate women.

“I am proud to be the patron of this brilliant initiative which has become an avenue for women to receive encouragement, support, recognition and reward for going the extra mile and more in our homes, villages, schools, offices and country,” the governor-general said.

The launching featured former winners Rosemary Miria (2009 Young PNG category), Nelly Bola (2011 Environment Category) and Tessie Soi (2012 Care and Compassion).
