GG should apologise for B’ville comments

Letters

GOVERNOR-GENERAL Grand Chief Sir Bob Dadae’s appeal to the Government not to let Bougainville pursue independence only shows his lack of understanding of the Bougainville Peace Agreement.
He obviously does not know of the 20,000 Bougainvilleans that lost their lives in the Bougainville conflict.
Sir Bob does not seem to know the acts of gross human rights violations committed in Bougainville by agents of the State, including the police and the army.
He does not know that the agreement would not have been signed by both parties if independence was thrown out of the agenda during the early days of the peace talks.
Is he aware that Bougainville bankrolled PNG’s independence from Australia from the proceeds of the Panguna mine for 15 years?
Where was the governor-general when he was Kabwum MP?
Why didn’t Sir Bob stop the army from travelling to Bougainville to kill the locals?
Is he aware that Bougainvilleans suffered for 10 years with hardships, pain and suffering?
The governor-general needs to apologise to the children of Bougainville and the widows who lost their fathers and husbands.
He needs to apologise to the people of Bougainville whose dead were never compensated.
You can kill a Bougainvillean, but his dream of pursuing independence will not be killed in the minds of others, including future generations.
Although PNG, like other members of the United Nations, is entitled to protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity, it no longer has that right.
It has already lost its right to protect its sovereignty during the Bougainville crisis.
The only way to compensate the people of Bougainville is for PNG and the governor-general to grant independence for Bougainville.
If this is not granted, Bougainville will pursue external self-determination.
