GINIGOADA Bisnis Development Foundation’s role in supporting youth welfare and life skills training in the Port Moresby was yesterday boosted with K800, 000 from NCD Governor Powes Parkop.
Parkop said the funds would be used for the organisation’s operational costs and to continue the good work in assisting unfortunate youth and children in the city.
Parkop said the foundation had done a “wonderful work in training young people with life skills training” and commended it for the good work.
Parkop said previously the organisation was supported by AusAID as its donor partner but the aid assistance had ceased that is why the National Capital District Commission was coming in to assist.
He said K400,000 would go towards assisting in the overall operation costs of the organisation to train young people in life skills.
The other K200,000 will go towards assisting with on-the- job training, which is a programme run by the foundation in partnership with Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce and Industry (POMCCI).
Parkop said a lot of young people in the city had not gone through formal education and organisations like Ginigoada were in the front line to help.
He said of the youths on the job training, 70% had been retained by employers.
Parkop also presented K200,000 to POMCCI to manage the Laikim Laip Project, which was a mobile training unit of the foundation that was operated in partnership with POMCCI.
POMCCI chief executive officer David Conn thanked Parkop for having the trust and assured him that all money used would be accounted for.
Gingoada manager Pastor Mike Fields thanked Parkop for “having a heart for the welfare of the youths and children of the city by giving them the funds”.
