A TOTAL of 76 participants graduated with certificates of financial literacy from the Ginigoada Foundation on Wednesday.
The foundation in partnership with City Pharmacy Ltd (CPL) conducted a one-week training with the youths of ATS (Air Transport Squadron) compound at 8-Mile in Port Moresby.
CPL Foundation manager Oti Lasagavibau said the course was aimed at empowering and educating participants on how to budget and save money.
“The main objective of this programme is for us to pull down at the community level,” she said.
Why we put money here is basically to empower and educate you about the financial literacy basics so that you learn about it and do something for yourself.”
Lasagavibau said more people needed to be financially aware in order to be independent and self-reliant.
She challenged participants to think about what they would do with the knowledge and skills they had gained.
“Learning is a stage by stage process,” she said.
“Every day we learn new things because we want to open up our mindset and so that we can prosper.
“We have to be successful.”
Lasagavibau said CPL, which had been in partnership with Ginigoada for seven years, was committed to helping ordinary Papua New Guineans and with a more vibrant and resilient attitude the country would be in better shape.
“Through that partnership we have graduated around 27,000 people in Port Moresby and Lae. Every year we (CPL Foundation) give Ginigoada K141,000.” She said the success of the programme depended on the people putting their knowledge and skills to use.
