A 11-year-old girl allegedly was raped by two men on Manus Island on Saturday morning, police said.
Police commander Chief Insp David Yapu said the incident happened between 8am and 9am in the Pobuma local level government area of Lorengau.
He said the two known suspects, 28 and 31, from the same area allegedly confronted the girl on the road and threatened her with a kitchen knife.
After threatening the victim, Yapu said, they tied a laplap around her face and forced her into the bush where they took turns in raping her.
“As a result of the ordeal, the victim sustained serious injuries to her private parts and was taken to the Lorengau Hospital where she is admitted and currently undergoing medical treatment.” Yapu said he was frustrated over the incident and described the behaviour and actions by the two suspects as animalistic and sick in their mind.
