Seven other people were rushed to the Mendi Provincial Hospital by the Pokrapugl Health Centre ambulance and Red Cross.
According to witness, Jimmy Narakup, 13 people were travelling in a blue 10-seater from Mt Hagen to Hela when the accident happened at Kalano village.
This village is close to the village where three people were killed by a vehicle belonging to the Department of Works two years ago.
Narakup had travelled to Mt Hagen in the morning and just missed the vehicle plunge into a creek.
“The bonnet of the vehicle opened and hit the windscreen, making the driver to steer the vehicle into the creek,” Narakup said.
“We believe that these people were from Hela.”
He said he was no sure if the vehicle was a family vehicle or was carrying passengers.
