A 38-YEAR-OLD man was charged on Wednesday at the Goroka District Court with raping a six-year-old girl in Ungai-Bena in Eastern Highlands.
Senior magistrate Josephine Nindue read out the charge against Berei Dux, from Madang’s Barum village, and adjourned the case to May 3.
According to statement before the court, on Jan 28 this year, Dux and his work mate were in Bena’s Sogomi village to extract honey from the girl’s father’s honey bee hive.
As they were working, Dux asked the bee hive owner (the girl’s father) to allow one of his children to accompany him to the market to buy betel nut.
The father allowed his daughter to escort him to the market because reportedly, there were fierce dogs along the way.
As they were returning to the village, Dux allegedly lured the little girl with 50t into nearby bushes and raped her.
On Feb 3, the little girl complained of vagina pains and told her mother what had happened that day.
She was taken to Goroka hospital where it was confirmed that she was sexually penetrated and a police report was lodged.
