Give Aussies taste of own medicine
The National, Tuesday February 9th, 2016
ALLOW me space to express my concern over the lack of mutual support by Australia on Papua New Guinea exports of agricultural products into the Australian market.
Since Papua New Guinea gained independence, Australia has regarded crops produced in PNG soil as unclean and thus imposed strict bio security measures to ban importation of any fruits, vegetables and root crops from our country.
So the time is right for PNG to step up its bio security measures and ban all agriculture imports from Australia. Let them taste their own medicine . PNG has high unemployment rate and needs better infrastructure to boost supply chain and meet entire domestic demand.
Minister for Agriculture Tommy Tomscol needs to be commended to place ban on poultry and vegetables is a step in the right direction. If LR group is exporting veggies out of 9 Mile farm to Fiji, why should PNG continue to be a subservient market for Australia .
It will be a great shame if PNG government cannot stand up to say enough is enough to the Australians.
