Eastern Papua Carnival soccer talents should be given opportunities to play at higher levels, says Samarai-Murua MP Isi Henry Leonard.
The MP delivered the message during the EPC grand final play-off on Saturday.
“I support Alotau MP and Deputy Prime Minister Charles Abel’s remarks and his commitment to EPC and revival of the Eastern Star. It is in the right direction,” he said.
“I’m willing to make my commitment to support but that has to be confirmed from my district development authority.
“We have a lot of potential talents in the carnival that should be given opportunities to the next level.
“This has to start now as I have witnessed that a team from Kiriwina played exceptionally well in the grand final against a much experienced side Maiyela from National Capital District.
“These village youths put up a grand surprise show against the NCD team, bringing the game to the wire which indicates that a lot should be recognised and harnessed from this tournament.
“We have to revive the Eastern Star team again so that potential talents in Milne Bay will look forward to represent their province at the national level.
“This is the time for us to start developing and exposing our raw talents.”
Leonard is confident that with such exposure many untapped talents from Milne Bay will be given the chance to reach the next level of football in PNG.
