Give credit where its due

IT is silly for Prime Minister James Marape to continuously attack and criticise former prime minister Peter O’Neill for investing recklessly on expensive commercial borrowings to build infrastructures while commending and congratulating his Treasurer Ian Ling-Stuckey for the interest-free loan of K1.2 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund.
Investing and building infrastructures are the key essentials towards building a robust economy.
Building infrastructures in and around Port Moresby and the country will attract investors.
Let me inform Marape that his entire cabinet ministers were part of O’Neill’s regime.
Marape was a senior cabinet minister of various important portfolios.
Thus, he must not continuously criticise O’Neill.
O’Neill, unlike previous prime ministers, has delivered by building infrastructures.
Port Moresby is not what it used to be during the reigns of Sir Michael Somare, Sir Bill Skate, Sir Mekere Morauta, Paias Wingti, Sir Julius Chan or Sir Rabbie Namaliu.
Regardless of your criticism, O’Neill should be respected and commended for investing and building infrastructures especially Port Moresby the capital of PNG.
I lived my entire life in Port Moresby and frankly speaking, Port Moresby city was worse.
No one in his or her right mind will argue with me that it was scary driving in and around Port Moresby because of poor road conditions, no street lightings, traffic jams all over Port Moresby, poor sports stadiums, very bad road condition leading to main centres such as airport, ports, industrial centres, streets within the city was full of craters and single lane causing traffic jam and a lot of inconveniences.
The Government should acknowledge and appreciate O’Neill that you can now drive smoothly in your car along the fly-over to the airport and in and around Port Moresby with well-constructed freeways.
Give credit where it’s due.

  • Oneil is the king of infrastructure and father of modern png. People have seen massive developments left right centre during Oneils reign. Not even Marape Steven government will match that and the entire country have seen it. Oneil has raised the bars to next level. The only thing Marape government will do is to criticize Oneil for this massive infrustructure developments that he has taken on board and tarnishing Oneils reputation. Papua New Guineans are still waiting to see Marape government to deliver. Because this government does not have policies to base and work on….sitting back and spoiling the names of good members who are performing. Too much talking and no action…Marape should thing first before he criticize Oneil, Marape himself was part and parcel of Oneil regime who made both good and bad decisions now he is accusing Oneil for. Marape dont try to be a good boy……Papua New Guineans know who you are. Thank you Oneil for infrustructure developments throughout the country atleast we have seen some change.

  • I fully agree with this article. Back then in 2011, when I came to study in Port Moresby, all roads now we see four lanes from 5mile – 6mile – 7mile and from erima to 9 mile were just 2 lanes , including the construction of new Gerehu-9mile back road plus Gerehu – Hanuabada back road and the Koura Way from Toks – Hanuabada. All these standard roads were actually built under o’neil’s regime thus give credit where is due. PNG can now host International games going forward because of its world class stadiums. Nearly all children had free education. And yes, I was previllege and right on time to be one who made it back to get formal education during his (O’neil’s) reign.
Thank you O’neil for your contribution to this great nation, PNG.

  • Borrow and invest on key infrastructure where investment will rise,, speed, time, distance, make extra than you repay..

If you are borrowing but spending only on areas you will not make money.. that is a issue..
