Give locals the processing centre contracts
The National, Monday July 28th, 2014
I WOULD like to ask Prime Minister Peter O’neill to give the locals all the contracts involved in the processing centre apart from the one Australia has given to the company that was operating in Nauru.
The locals have been marginalised whilst the outsiders are getting all the work from, laundry, security, transport, car hire and the list goes on.
Both of our political leaders are not representing us in these issues because they have got their own interest and not the people.
One example is the buses transporting the security personnel to and from work every morning and afternoon is own by somebody from Pangia.
The Manus people can easily provide the service so why give it to someone outside of Manus?
All the LNG contracts in the highlands are given to their own people.
So why not reserve some of these contracts in processing centre for the Manus people?
The negotiation was not done properly with little going to Manus whilst the country is benefiting more from the deal, provinces which the LNG project is taking place have been getting seed capital and all the other benefit sharing agreement to help kick start business in the communities whilst we are missing out on these assistance from the government.
If we have an honest and genuine leadership, the people of Manus would not miss out on this multi-billion processing centre.
The Manusian is peace loving people and do not go around storming Vulupindi Haus or demand what is truly ours.
Manus is the strategic location for the Australians, that is the truth.
