THE Bank South Pacific Go Green Campaign is to educate children on the importance of looking after the environment, an official says.
It was launched on Friday at the Butuka Academy in Port Moresby with the theme “Recycle, Reuse and Rethink”.
“The main aim of the Go Green campaign is to encourage students to look after their environment,” said the bank’s Amelia Minnopu.
She said BSP had visited over 500 schools around the country since 2010.
Students were told to be mindful of the rubbish they make, how they dispose them and to care for the environment especially planting trees.
Butuka Academy director Olando Antonio said: “When you talked about Go Green, you also talked about planting trees and we at the academy would try our best to do that.
“With global warming and the increase of rubbish in our communities, this is a time for us to utilise this opportunity and make a difference in our community.”
Students were given Go Green t-shirts, caps, gloves and plastic bags before been sent out by their teachers to collect rubbish in and around the school.
BSP Go Green ambassador James Niu encouraged the students to also open their BSP Sumatin accounts and to take part in events organised by BSP.
