Golf nets K115,000 for Team PNG

THE Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee’s fundraising drive for the national contingent to the Rio Olympics made K115,000 off the annual Prime Minister’s Corporate Golf Challenge on May 20.
The Institute of Business Studies team won the tournament at the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club’s course.
They finished ahead of The National Library and Archives and Bank of PNG.
Team IBS was rewarded with the trophy and a prize of four return trips to Sydney, runners-up NLA received a prize of four return trips to Brisbane, while Bank of PNG took home four return trips to Cairns, all of which were courtesy of tournament partners, Air Niugini.
This year’s challenge featured 25 teams from various organisations, who took the time out on a Friday to show their support for Team PNG through a competitive game of golf following the Ambrose format called the Texas scramble.
Team PNG chef de mission Emma Waiwai congratulated IBS on their win and thanked the other teams for their participation.
She said the event was an important part of PNGOC’s fundraising drive for the national team.
The Trukai Fun Run was their other major annual event.
Team IBS, led by team captain Kepa Darima, finished the competition with a score of 52.375.
The second Prime Minister’s Golf Challenge for this year will be held in Lae on July 1.
