GOLFERS in Lae and surrounding areas have the opportunity to participate in the Prime Minister’s Corporate Golf Challenge when it returns to the Lae Golf Club on Friday.
The last time the challenge was held in Lae was in 2015 and the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee is looking forward to seeing the fierce but friendly rivalry on the Lae greens again.
Committee secretary-general Auvita Rapilla said Lae had always supported the challenge through their participation and they were pleased to take the event there again.
“With the Pacific Games coming up, it is important that we have the support of all our partners, corporate friends and the public and we are looking forward to the Golf Challenge in Lae,” Rapilla, pictured, said in a statement.
The winners of the tournament will take home the challenge trophy.
They will also win a return ticket each from Lae to Sydney, courtesy of Air Niugini.
The runners-up will receive Air Niugini tickets for Lae to Brisbane and the third-placed team will also receive Air Niugini return tickets from Lae to Cairns.
Players also have the chance to win a new ute if they shoot a hole-in-one on the eighth hole.
The first leg of the challenge was held in Port Moresby on May 17, with 30 teams raising K112,000.
Funds raised from this event goes towards sending Team PNG to the Pacific Games which will be held in Apia, Samoa, from July 4 -20.
“We are sending a big team to the Games so we want to raise as much as we can to send all our best sportsmen and women,” Rapilla.
She appealed to corporate organisations be part of the event by registering a team to participate in the challenge. Registration per team is K3,000 and interested organisations can contact the committee on 3230114, 3251449 or email [email protected], or the Lae Golf Club on 472 1353 for more information.
Organisations are also invited to donate prizes or become sponsors for holes on the course.
