A COUPLE looking after a group of homeless people in Port Moresby are appealing for assistance to feed them.

Reverend Hoge Rabura and wife Vagahu from the United Church in the East Port Moresby circuit are looking after 20 people in need of food and shelter.

The group includes those who are HIV-positive, orphans, victims of domestic violence and widows.

They were forced out of the Women of Hope Centre recently and had been looking for someone to provide them shelter and food.

The couple accepted them into their home at Rahamata on the Taurama Barracks Road.

Rabura said the biggest problem for them now was food and shelter.

He said they had only two bags of rice remaining and would be grateful for any assistance.

“They are currently living under a make-shift shelter which has a canvas roof,” he said.

Rabura said since they were living near a creek, they were prone to mosquito-related diseases such as malaria.

He said he had a family to look after as well and would need some assistance to look after the new arrivals at his home.

Rabura said the Catholic Church, World Vision and High Lift had already offered to help look after the group.
