Good start to beach volleyball

 PAPUA New Guinea defeated Northern Marianas 2-0 in their men’s beach volleyball match at the Sir John Guise Stadium yesterday.

PNG’s Richard Kilarupa and Moha Mea went up against Clay McCulloungh-Stearns in the morning.

It was a two sets win again in the afternoon against Tongans Metuisela Vainikolo and Salesi Mafi Tuakoi.

There are 12 teams in two pools in the men’s competition.

For the women’s division, there are nine teams, five in Pool A and four for Pool B.

PNG’s Dianne Moia and Alice Ito lost to American Samoa (16/20-21/22).

Competition manager Nuga Dick said for the men’s side, Fiji were the defending champions from the 2011 Pacific Games in New Caledonia.

Tahiti won in the Mini Games in 2013 in Wallis and Futuna. 

The Vanuatu women are the favourites to win.

Competition continues until Friday. The finals will take place on Saturday.
