Gordon health centre reopens after K200,000 makeover

THE Gordon urban health centre in Port Moresby has re-opened after being renovated at the cost of K200,000.
The clinic had been closed for almost two years for renovations and extension which were financed by the National Capital District Commission.
It now has additional features such as an emergency room, a pharmacy and a mini operating theatre.
The health centre provides services such as ante-natal, well-baby clinic, family planning, tuberculosis tests care, voluntary counselling and testing. NCD acting health adviser for Doctor Jerry Tanumei plans to increase the number of staff.
He thanked the health workers for their commitment and hard work despite problems such as transportation issue.
Clinic manager Sister Dama Hombunaka said staff at Gordon were moved to work at the 6-Mile clinic during the renovation.
Hombunaka said the clinic used to serve more than 400 people and dealt with more than 10 emergency cases a day.
She said the clinic was centrally located for people in Port Moresby, Central and Gulf.
