GOROKA-based Helping Hands Honey Project has for the first time graduated 15 beekeepers.
Project director Kelly Inae said the one-week training at his Lipiga Natural Habitat site was the first-ever training to be conducted.
He said the participants from Goroka, Kainantu and Chimbu were fortunate to get first-hand training in apiculture.
“This is the first training in apiculture to be conducted here,” Inae said.
“I am looking at a second training next month.
“We will improve from lessons learnt from this training.”
Inae congratulated the participants and assured them that his project would work closely with them by way of providing supervision and advice.
He has been involved in honeybee production since 2006 and has made inroads into Eastern Highlands, Chimbu, Morobe, Madang and Jiwaka.
Eastern Highlands agriculture representative Atura Kela thanked Inae for the training and assured him of continued support from the provincial government.
He said training was important for the apiculture industry.
Livelihood manager of Oxfam International John Gaius thanked Helping Hands for conducting a successful training.
He assured Inae of the continued support from Oxfam.
Baniva Fibila, a lecturer in agriculture at University of Goroka, said apiculture was one of the areas to be developed in PNG.
