Goroka needs a ‘real’ park

Letters

IF you are from Goroka or already in Goroka, you will know that the town water supply tank is located at Mountain Kiss.
It is up on a small hill top near Komiufa village.
The name is from people who reside in the residential areas in town and suburbs, who visited the spot for courtships.
One can imagine how safe the location has been. However, as time passed, it no longer serves that purpose. The Southern Cross tank stores water to supply the populace of Goroka Town is the spot right now.
The view and location of the hill can be attractive for a town park.
It provides a peaceful atmosphere and unique spot for a visitor to see right through to North Goroka, town, airport, East Goroka and our main market.
Goroka now has no meaningful park: Our national park is polluted with all sorts of events and rubbish.
Our Peace Park is without all the shade trees, which is an eye sore.
It could later become a temporary market place if anything happens with our main market.
In evenings, it becomes a training ground for formal and informal sporting teams, etc.
Our Rotary Park in West Goroka has never been upgraded.
We want a real park.
Create a development committee and consider contracting to PNG Gardner, a reputable gardener, to redevelop the sport.
We see there is a park in Maserakaiufa village outside Goroka.
Mt Gahavisuka Nature Park is a 30-40 minute drive from Goroka.
People and visitors will find it interesting as an attractive spot for lunch and relaxation.
Market the site using upgraded market strategies targeting visitors to the province and corporate houses for functions and public meetings, etc.
