GOROKA MP Bire Kimisopa surprised executives of Goroka Soccer Association with a K10,000 donation last week.

Goroka Football Association President Cathy Agunam welcomed the local member’s timely assistance as they needed help to keep promoting soccer in the Eastern Highlands capital.

She said it was the first time an MP had come in person to assist them with funding.

Agunam said the association would use the funding to run the competition in its new season.

“Our competition this year began with 10 clubs. We were struggling to keep the competition running so this intervention is greatly appreciated and we thank him from our hearts,” Agunam said.

Kimisopa also committed another K10, 000 towards the grand final of the competition and also pledge his support towards the association over the next five years.

This is from a K100,000 commitment Kimisopa made for all sporting activities in Goroka including the revival of Goroka Rugby League at the Sir Danny Leahy grounds.

Agunam also acknowledged the support of PNGFA Highlands Region representative Paddy Kelly.
