A TEENAGER in Goroka, Eastern Highlands has tested positive for Covid-19, according to National Pandemic Response Controller David Manning.
This brings to 12 the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Eastern Highlands and 581 for Papua New Guinea as of Saturday.
Manning said the 15-year-old girl did not have symptoms of Covid-19 at the time of testing but she had been in contact with a previously-identified Covid-19 case.
“To date, 27,003 people in PNG have been tested for the coronavirus and an additional 281 samples are pending laboratory results,” Manning said.
“There are 540 people who have recovered from Covid-19 while there are 34 active cases that are being isolated.
“The country’s death toll from Covid-19 remains at seven,” Manning said.
He said there were 14 provinces in the country that had confirmed Covid-19 cases.
Meanwhile, the Singapore Consulate in PNG reopens today following the reopening of Singapore’s borders, with suspensions lifted on existing and new visas.
Short-term travellers who hold valid passports or travel documents are advised to apply for visas as Covid-19 protocols will apply and are subject to change. Persons with particular technical conditions are also advised to apply to the consulate.
This includes foreign visitors seeking entry for medical treatment who will need to present an approval through a Singapore doctor to the Ministry of Health.
All other short-term visitors need prior approval from appropriate Covid-19 channels before they can enter Singapore.
Some countries (or regions within countries like Macao) like China and Malaysia (excluding Sabah) are currently granted a reduced seven-day quarantine period at their place of residence.
