Goroka’s Five-Mile Spartans receive jerseys from SP Hunter

SP Hunter Brandon Nima is making use of his break at his Kafuka village in Goroka, Eastern Highlands, backing his Five-Mile Spartans with jerseys for their men’s and women’s teams.
The centre decided to give back to his junior club with assistance from Hunters assistant coach and Papua New Guinea Kumuls legend Paul Aiton.
Nima told The National that since the formation of Spartans in 2016, the club had been playing without full sets of jerseys, so he came up with the initiative.
“This was where my rugby league journey began,” he said.
“So to see my club without full sets of jerseys is sad.
“That is why I decided to give back to my club.
“Seeing the younger generations taking drugs, consuming alcohol and instigating violence is not good. So I need to do something as an ambassador and give back to the club.
“It will at least give Spartans something to look forward to and do away with bad habits.”
Rugby league aside, the 2018 Goroka Lahanis premiership winner said he wanted to help motivate the younger generation to become good ambassadors in their communities, not only in sports but education and religion.
Nima was only 22 when he was called up by head coach Michael Marum in 2018 to join the Kumuls squad where he made his international try-scoring debut against the England Knights in Lae.
