Government officers sign work contracts
The National, Friday 23rd March 2012
NATIONAL Broadcasting Corporation managing director Memafu Kapera is determined to change the way it delivers information services to Papua New Guineans.
He wanted to make NBC competitive with other radio and television stations.
“Once upon a time NBC had a monopoly in the radio business and it has been the public broadcaster since 1973,” he said.
“But that has changed over the years with stiff competition from others .
“And I want NBC to be competitive too.
“NBC is undergoing a major reform and our goal is have all 19 provinces having access to our TV and radio,” he said.
Memafu believes NBC’s service must reach the majority of Papua New Guineans, especially people in the rural areas.
Memafu made the comments after signing his employment contract at Government House in Port Moresby yesterday.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Governor-General Sir Michael Ogio and secretary of Personnel management John Kali.
Memafu, who will serve for four years, was among five senior officers who signed their contracts.
The others are government chief secretary Manasupe Zurenuoc, National Road Authority chief executive officer Roy Mumu, Correctional Services Assistant Commissioner – Northern region director Dennis Piandi and senior officers Johnny Bogombari (second legislative counsel) and Lina Kegana Rouaia (assistant legislative counsel).
Zurenuoc and Mumu will serve for four years while Piandi, Bogombari and Rouaia will serve three-year terms respectively.
Border Development Authority chairman Douglas Tamuriesa and Mendi General Hospital CEO Joseph Turian failed to turn up to sign their contracts.
