Government set to make reforms

THE government will make several legislative reforms, starting next month, Prime Minister Peter O’Neill said.
He told parliament on Tuesday that the reforms include :
l    Review of constitutional provisions relating to the election of the prime minister and the term of parliament;
l    Review of the Organic Law on national and local level government elections;
l    Review of the Organic Law on the Integrity of Political Parties and Candidates;
l    Repeal of the Judicial Conduct Act and the Supreme Court Amendment Act;
l    Repeal of the Parliamentary Powers and Privilege Act;
l    Repeal of Amendments to the Prime Minister and NEC Act;
l    Pass legislations for a Dual Citizenship Act; and
l    Enact establishment of the Independent Commission against Corruption (ICAC).
Other existing laws to come under review would be the NCDC Act and establishment of Lae and Mt Hagen city commissions, the Public Service Management Act, Oil and Gas Act, Mining Act and the police, defence and correctional services Acts.
O’Neill said the Education Act, Organic Law on Electoral Boundaries Commission, Organic Law on Provincial and Local Level Governments and the Regulatory Services Authority (appointment to certain offices) Act would also be reviewed  during this time.
