THE Government will take over the distribution of medical supplies to health centres and aid posts from June.
The programme is funded by AusAID.
East New Britain provincial health adviser Nick Larme highlighted this recently when giving a run down of the completion of the fifth round of medical supplies for health centres and aid posts in the province.
He said medical supplies distributed to the aid posts and health centres did not usually go through the area medical store.
Larme stressed the need for the sustainability of the programme which was important to strengthen national systems. He said with the free health care system in place, the programme must be viable and work effectively. He said with the completion of the provincial transit medical store at Butuwinin Kokopo, there was a need to set up a proper and efficient system for medical supplies.
Plans are in place to advertise the position of a pharmacist to control the distributions of medical supplies.
