Government working to ensure efficiency

THE Government will work towards eliminating the wantok system, nepotism, cronyism, bribery, complacency and laziness in a bid to transform the public service, Prime Minister James Marape says.
In presenting the annual report to Parliament yesterday, Marape said the reinvigoration process would be piloted in the Department of Prime Minister and National Executive Council (NEC) and rolled out to the Central Agency Coordination Committee (CACC) and line departments.
“I want the department to undergo a major organisational restructure to assign my government policies and programmes. The review will be on making the department flatter and leaner so that bureaucratic red-tape is systematically eliminated,” he said.
Marape said the organisational review would coordinate, monitor and evaluate the performance management standards of all department heads, managing directors, chief executive officers of statutory organisations and all senior contract officers.

  • Thanks PM JP for this tough stand, I know it won’t go down well but, it’s about time we turn things around for this country. Thanks very much and I know many who won positions by napotism, wantokism and regionalism won’t survive this process. Thankyou for taking back PNG through this action that will be implemented shortly.

  • Awarding with positions or contracts in public offices by nepotism, wantokism, regionalism, cronyism, circularism, pimism, or give & take mechanism has been a real moral-ethical issues and decay in this country. This has long been killing the morale and rationale of work ethic of the public servants and consequently performance has been very low and the productivity in the public sector in the delivery of public goods & services has been always low to its effects and expectation. If we are ones that are in this situation, we should now recollect our consciousness and fast for repentance. Can we consider changing our attitude and habitual character of our human personality and charged with honesty, integrity and responsibility in producing goods & services for the common benefits for all people of this country specifically and all human race generally as God’s purpose. Thanks,
