THE swearing-in of re-elected and newly-elected Morobe MPs to the provincial assembly will take some time because the governor’s office has been ransacked of all its furniture.
Deputy Governor Morokoi Gaiwata said yesterday he was disappointed to find out that staff of former Governor Luther Wenge had removed chairs and tables from the office.
Gaiwata said it would take up to three weeks to arrange for replacements.
He said the locks on doors to the office had been broken as well.
He said in addition, maintenance would have to be carried out on the official Governor’s residence at Top Town in Lae.A handover ceremony between Wenge and his successor, Kelly Naru, is expected as soon as arrangements are finalised. The caretaker governor has instructed the Tutumang (provincial assembly) clerk and cabinet secretary to arrange for the first provincial assembly sitting to be organised in September for all 33 local level government presidents, Naru and the eight new and re-elected open MPs from Morobe.
A meeting is expected soon for Gaiwata to brief Naru on key administrative and political issues in the province.    Gaiwata said the meeting was important to ensure a smooth transition of power.
He said it was important for the LLG presidents to work closely with the members of parliament for services to be delivered to the people.
He thanked the Prime Minister and members of parliament for electing the Member for Finschhafen, Theodore Zurenuoc, as Speaker of Parliament and Tewai-Siassi MP, Mao Zeming’s inclusion in the caretaker cabinet.Gaiwata said with all MPs now sworn-in, he looked forward to a better working relation between local and national Morobean politicians, unlike in the past were they worked in isolation.
