Governor clarifies claims

 MOROBE Governor Luther Wenge has clarified speculation he supports a K1 billion claim against the government and sugar manufacturer, Ramu Agri-Industries Ltd (Rail), by a landowner group from Gusap in the Ramu Valley.

Wenge said in Lae last Friday he had acknowledged being approached by a group some time ago.

He said the group had introduced itself as the Ramu Valley landowner group that wanted to claim compensation for their land at Gusap being used for beef, sugar and oil palm production.

He said he did not know about the landownership but he had given legal advice.

Wenge said whether the group comprised genuine landowners or not, he gave legal advice that any landowner, who wanted to claim compensation, should know.
