Governor fulfils promise
The National, Thursday July 24th, 2014
Morobe Governor Kelly Naru has contributed K80,000 to support the Evangelical Lutheran Church activities in the Lae circuit.
Naru had promised the funding last year.
He said K50,000 would help support 10 parishes under the circuit, with each parish receiving K5000, K10,000 has been donated to assist the administration operation and another K15,000 to St Steven Parish to help organise the Sam Katong next month.
While presenting the cheque, Naru reminded people that while they were receiving assistance, individually they must not forget to give a tenth back to the church.
“To get blessings, we each must learn to give back and we shall be blessed in return. My government for this year and last year has given it back to the church by way of supporting church activities.
“In Lae city and Morobe province, churches are growing strong because of the government’s partnership with the church through the government-church partnership programme.”
ELC Lae circuit president Timbing Kahata, who received the cheque on behalf of the circuit, thanked Naru for his continuous effort and support.
“The assistance will greatly benefit some of the parishes that are struggling to coordinate some of their church activities. I thank the governor for the church partnership programme. It is a good programme that a lot of churches are benefiting from,” he said.
