WEST Sepik Governor Simon Solo has commended the achievements of the Sandaun provincial administration under the leadership of outgoing provincial administrator Joseph Sungi.
Solo said over the 11 years that Sungi had been in office, the provincial administration offered the most conducive, innovative, vibrant and responsive administrative support necessary for him and his government to effectively provide the political leadership and governance required in effecting the reform.
While addressing the takeover ceremony in Vanimo last Friday, Solo said as result of good governance and administration in West Sepik, the province had now been rated by authorities and stakeholders as being one of the best performing provinces in the country for effectively administering the intents of the reform and in delivering services to the people of Sandaun.
He said under the leadership of Sungi, many impact projects had been initiated in the province.
He thanked the outgoing provincial administrator for his untiring loyalty and commitment to development of the province and in offering the best possible advice to him and his cabinet as the province’s chief adviser.
Solo said with much regret, the Sandaun provincial government had accepted Sungi’s request to resign from the civil service so he could spend more time with his family and people.
“A man of Sungi’s integrity and calibre is usually not easily found and it was not easy finding a replacement to fill in the gap
left by Sungi,” Solo said.
“With endorsement from the provincial executive council, a submission was made to the National Executive Council recommending the revocation of Sungi as provincial administrator and the appointment of Henry Norm as an acting provincial administrator.
He said the National Executive Council resolved to effect these last Thursday when the instruments on cabinet’s
resolutions were gazetted and announced.
Sungi began his career with the public service in 1990, starting as a junior officer with the provincial division of agriculture and livestock after graduating with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture from the University of Papua New Guinea.
