WESTERN Governor Taboi Awi Yoto has made education one of his priority areas by allocating almost K37 million in the province’s 2019 budget.
A total of K36,691,400 will be spent on establishing and supporting educational institutions.
It will also pay fees of Western students in tertiary institutions, including students selected to the four schools of excellence at Sogeri, Passam, Kerevat and Aiyura national high schools.
“I believe in an educated populace, as the well-trained human resource will get back to develop the province and contribute to its affairs,” Yoto said.
“As such, the Fly River government’s domestic tertiary students’ 2019 fees will be fully covered by the K4.5 million funding allocation.”
He said project fees of all students from elementary to grade 12 in the province would be taken care by the PNG Sustainable Development Programme, an agreement which was reached mid last year.
With Rumginae Community Health Workers’ Training School being the only training institution in Western, K2 million was appropriated as initial funding to establish Saint Montfort Teachers’ College in Kiunga this year.
A new Mougulu High School in Nomad local level government in Middle Fly has been appropriated K2.5 million for its establishment.
“Fly River government allocated funding support to fund the projects of existing educational institutions in the province,” Yoto said.
“They include Rumginae Community Health Worker’s Training School (K4mil), Kiunga Secondary (K4mil), Awaba Secondary (K2.2mil), Morehead High (K2.2mil) and Olsobip High School (K2mil).”
He urged students to take their offer letters and continuing status letters to sponsorship coordinating offices in Daru and Kiunga.
