RE-OPENING Kundiawa Airport and getting direct Air Niugini flights back there is part of the government’s 100-day plan for Chimbu Governor Michael Dua.
During his swearing-in as the governor and chairman of the Simbu provincial assembly in Kundiawa on Tuesday, Dua said direct Air Niugini flights from Port Moresby was one of his priorities. He said that he wanted that to happen within the next three months.
“I will be discussing this with the management of the National Airports Corporation (NAC) and Air Niugini when I go down to Port Moresby over the next few days,” Dua said.
“I want to see Air Niugini coming back to Kundiawa.
“This is something I will discuss with the management of Air Niugini and NAC to see what we can do to bring this service back.
“Chimbu and Jiwaka people travelling all the way to Mt Hagen and Goroka to board a plane to Port Moresby needs to stop.
“We must start to open up links into the province.”
