EAST Sepik Governor Sir Michael Somare has called on members of the disciplined forces to take pride in the uniform they wear, their barracks and the stations they serve.

He said sadly there had been no demonstration of discipline over the past recent months as the name of disciplinary forces would suggest.

He called on all perpetrators who triggered the recent unrest in Wewak town to be suspended from duty while independent investigations were carried out.

“All members of both disciplinary forces implicated in this unrest must stand down while investigations are carried out,” Sir Michael said.

“I met with the Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and he assured me that a new provincial police commander will be appointed quickly.

“Sadly, the current PPC has failed the province and has not responded to any calls from myself as governor nor the provincial administration to which he reports.

“Too many incidents of this kind have gone unattended and been allowed to fester and worsen.

“Currently there are police cars on the road burning fuel without providing protection to the community. This must change under the new command.
