Governor: We are taking back Hela

National

HELA Governor Philip Undialu says the province will claim what was rightfully theirs, including shares and services.
Undialu said people tended to forget that Hela had contributed so much to the country over the last 30 years through its liquefied natural gas (LNG) project.
“For so long, Hela contributed to the purse of this nation but has not received anything back, no services were given to us,” he said.
“So now, we will take back Hela, we will demand for services that is rightfully ours and will demand for our shares as well – not Papua New Guinea’s share but our share so that we too can take back Hela.”
Undialu said it was true that law and order issues were a great challenge for the province but they would work together to address them.
He thanked the Prime Minister James Marape for approving K360mil for the Tari General Hospital.
“We now have a Papua New Guinea Defence Force forward operating base, we have the Hawa Correctional Services functioning, we have a magistrate in the province for the first time and today we have opened Tari’s first sealed airport runway since independence,” he said.
“We will build Hela.
“It is a challenge that we accept.”
