PARI Dunamis are poised to cause some upsets as they enter the top eight of the National Capital District Governor’s Cup Nines Challenge at the Kone Tigers Oval today.

The four-day challenge will see the selection of Team NCD for the PNG Games in November.

The Pari village team topped Pool C as one of the competition’s dark horses and more exciting action is expected.

They nailed a strong Port Moresby Rugby League (Team 1) 8-4, held-off the fancied Koki Eels 12-8 and then bumped off Road Safety 12-4 to make the cup play-offs.

In the match against Road Safety, playmaker Boge Frank, directed his pacey ball-runners well, leading to tries to Legu Oala and strike player John Stanley.

The main danger looks to be Port Moresby Rugby League (Team 2) with try-scoring machine Junior Arova in a bloodthirsty mood after convincing wins over Suburban (Team 2) 18-10, Mahuru Eagles 8-0, Hanuabada (Team 1) 18-0 and Hanuabada (Team 2) 10-0, to top Pool E.  Nelson Wak, Tony Korua and slippery Nao Boge are expected to feature prominently.

In Pool G, Vabukori have surprised the competition  as they beat Hanuabada (Team 2) 14-8, NCD Corporate 16-4 and Suburban (Team 2) to make the top eight.

Pool F’s Bese Bulldogs from Tubusereia are the other side in the hunt after beating Balimo Sowali 14-10.

Other pool toppers: Suburban, Pool A; Tatana, Pool B; Central Lauma, Pool D.
