SKILLS-based training should be a priority area for the government to help young people,
according to officials.
They were at the opening of the new campus of the National Training Institute in Morobe province skills-based education.
They said skills-based training was the best alternative for young Papua New Guineans pursuing education as part of their personal
development.
Those at the opening included National Apprenticeship and Technical Training Board acting director Tom Kipau, Department of Labor and Industrial
Relations deputy secretary of policy Maria Lovaga, Independent Fellowship Scheme director Micah Vele and National Capital District schools coordinator Maino Kolowa.
They commended the opening of the new Wampar campus saying technical skills training should be a priority area for the government.
Kolowa welcomed the fact that the government was advocating for skills-based education and the NTI as a training institution should be looked after by the neighbouring communities as they would benefit greatly from its services.
Lovaga said the biggest problem with employment in the country was the lack of skilled manpower which investors depended on.
She said many formal education institutions could not adequately train and equip young people.
Vele said the Wampar campus added value to the lives of many Papua New Guineans
