Govt denying jobless LNG jobs

Letters, Normal

THE unemployment rate in PNG is very high.
The jobless people do not want charity.
All they want is an opportunity to work and to live in peace.
Unfortunately, the government is not able to generate jobs for the people.
When the LNG project was announced, it looked like it be would be able to provide thousands of jobs for Papua New Guineans.
Alas, we have learned that the government is not interested to help its own people by giving them the first right to seek employment.
Instead, it is bringing in 5,000 labourers from Fiji.
The catchword here is labourer, not skilled personnel.
So what is the difference between a labourer from PNG and Fiji?
The government must explain why it is not willing to invest on its own people.
