ALL important government information can now be circulated in a matter of seconds in Eastern Highlands province – thanks to the new integrated government information system.

It follows the arrival of communication equipment to Goroka last week.

The government contracted Huawei delivered computers, cables and necessary equipment to Goroka.

The government has successfully managed to link up all important government agencies in Port Moresby through the information system and has extended this to the provinces.

Eastern Highlands information technology officer Job Gimismo said the lack of effective communication between government offices and agencies forced officers to work in isolation.

“Working in isolation would now be a thing of the past. Eastern Highlands provincial administration, districts, governor’s office and local MPs’ offices would be linked up,” he said.

He said services to be installed included emails, video conferencing, iPhones, internet and other services. They will be linked to the Telikom communication network.

Gimismo said East New Britain, West New Britain, East Sepik and West Sepik now enjoy the new government service.

The equipment was delivered to deputy provincial administrator John Gimisive by Telemu 16 logistics manager Gypsy Santiago.

Telemu 16 was contracted by Huawei to deliver the equipment to provinces.

Gimisive said it was consistent with the changing technology to link up government officers to have effective communication in the course of executing their jobs.
