THE Government is focused on reducing the cost of energy to improve the country’s economy, Prime Minister James Marape says.
Marape said the Government was looking to business partners and shareholders to find solutions to lower the cost of fuel and power in the country.
He said lowering the cost of energy in terms of electricity and fuel was “critically important” driving economic growth and laying a foundation for future prosperity.
He said this during the Puma Energy safety milestone celebrations in Napa Napa outside Port Moresby yesterday.
The company recorded 14 million working hours without injury from 2014-2021 for its 28 operational sites in PNG.
He said Puma Energy was the leading energy distributor and first refining company with experience to consider working with the Government to minimise the cost of power and fuel.
“As a Government, we have searched for partners to assist us to contribute in lowering the cost of energy, mostly fuel and power,” Marape said.
He said the price of all fuels needed to be reduced to turn lower the cost of doing business in Papua New Guinea and to help build major infrastructure and develop a wide range of service industries.
Marape said reducing energy costs was a major focus of the Government under his leadership.
