Govt House sets date for honours event

THE investiture ceremony for the Orders of Papua New Guinea New Year’s honours and awards will take place next month.
Acting Official Secretary Bill Toraso said the ceremony would be in April at the Government House, in Port Moresby.
About 80 individuals from the public and private sectors have been recognised in the 2019 New Year’s Honours list.
Among them were Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika to be awarded Grand Companion of the Order of Logohu (GCL), for services to the community and the judiciary, and Most Reverend Rochus Tatamai, to be awarded the Companion of the Order of Star of Melanesia for services to the community and the Catholic Church, and Michael Marum is
a Member of the Order of Logohu (ML), for services to rugby league and as a highly successful
coach for the Hunters and PNG Kumuls.
The Orders of Papua New Guinea awards also recognise members of the disciplined forces under the categories of Distinguished Military Service Medal, Distinguished Police Service Medal and Distinguished Correctional Service Medal.
Other categories are: The National Logohu Medal (LM), Cross of Medical Service (CMS), Meritorious Public Service Medal and Meritorious Community Service Medal, MCS.
