PATRON of the Operation Open Heart Foundation Justin Tkatchenko says the Government has allocated K2 million this year for the operation.

This amount should continue every year, he said.

Tkatchenko was speaking at a dinner hosted by the Royal Papua Yacht Club to welcome the Operation Open Heart team from Australia last Saturday in Port Moresby.

Surgery by Operation Open Heart began on Sunday and ends on Friday.

Tkatchenko said the Government had also allocated K50 million for the upgrading of the Port Moresby General Hospital.

“I congratulate the new chief executive officer of Port Moresby General Hospital Grant Muddle and ask the nurses and doctors to talk to him on what things the money should be spent on,” he said.

Australian team coordinator Russell Lee said the operation programme was always amazing that displayed an investment from the ordinary people, doctors and nurses.

“It is always good to come back to PNG and the visiting team has worked together to make things happen.

“We come here to save the lives of our children and the young who have heart problems and when we have the local staff work alongside, they learn a lot of things too,” he said.

The Royal Papua Yacht Club also gave K29,000 to the Operation Open Heart Foundation.
