Govt needs to take action

Letters

TOO much talk has been going on at the Morauta Haus over the last few weeks and yet no tangible action has been taken.
Prime Minister James Marape has been repeating the same statements over and over in all his press releases and we are fed up already.
With due respect, we do not expect you to declare a biological war against Covid-19 as America did or instruct scientists to create or mutate vaccine to cure the virus.
We expect the Government to provide simple preventive items and equipment for the people.
We are aware the virus is already in PNG hence you politicians cannot continuously count on the person of interest, suspected cases or confirmed cases.
Talk about how many hand sanitisers, face masks, ventilators and other personal preventive equipment for the frontline workers as the severity of the Covid-19 is looming.
We have to be realistic in dealing with this deadly virus, its killing people worldwide.
So if our Government has any information of the immunity towards this virus then its time they have to tell the country.
Too much exaggeration is causing people to panic exponentially.
Our Government has not taken any robust steps in making sure people follow state of emergencies (SOE) guidelines provided.
For instance, it has been announced that PMV buses which carries 25 passengers are restricted by five passengers and 15-seater buses to carry 10 people.
But in reality as I have witnessed with my naked eyes, buses are carrying more than 25 people.
The 1.5 metres social distancing is not practiced, dis-infection is not carried out on the seats, and hand sanitisers are not in front of the buses to make sure every passenger is sanitised.
Thus, this is only a scenario for the public buses but when looking at the markets, shops etc people are not wearing protective masks.
As such we need police officers to strictly check the buses to ensure they carry required number of people at a time and also hand sanitisers and disinfection sprays are provided by the Health Department for all PMV owners.
I convey my gratitude to the Government on the steps taken to shutdown PNG and declare SOE but these should be complemented by other preventive measures at our level.
