Govt plans to help create more PNG businesses

THE Government will partner the business community in an effort to build more Papua New Guinean businesses from next year,” Prime Minister James Marape says.
In his independence anniversary address on Monday night, the prime minster urged members of the business community at Parliament House to pick up small to medium enterprises (SME) and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) to broaden the economy base.
“If our citizens are prosperous, have decent services, access to services and are participating in business and commerce and have money in their pockets, they will be law-abiding and our country will be safe and secure and every one of us, including business houses, will return dividends to shareholders,” he said.
“Finding the right formula in which our citizens are lifted, and ensuring that our businesses are functioning without impediments from systems of Government is something that my leadership will get into to ensure that we find a right working environment in which businesses and our people prosper.”
Marape, who is due to attend the United Nations meeting, said when he returned he would engage with various industries – forestry, fishing, and mining businesses to add value in the petroleum or gas sector.
“These conversations I will have with the industries so that our discussions are cognition and we don’t harm you but increase our economy.
“My aim in the next 10 years, we want to work consistently to diversify the base of our economy and increase tax net.”

  • This dream is unlikely to materialise if no changes are made to lending requirements by the banks and taxation policies.

  • Business is our business. Government must fix our Roads and Bridges. Without good roads, how can people start business. Lot of preaching in words will never work. We need good roads.
