Govt remains custodian of investment negotiations: Juffa

THE Government will remain the overall custodian of negotiations on investment into natural resources, says Oro Governor Gary Juffa.
Juffa was commenting on claims of illegal logging in parts of the province which he recently visited.
He said the role of the government was to ensure that foreign companies coming to the country were genuine and had track records of successful projects, apart from satisfying other requirements
Juffa pointed out that for any logging project to operate in the country, the process would go through five departments: environmental conservation, lands, agriculture, forestry and the provincial administration.
Each of the departments will undertake a process required by law.
“It has to be done by law, so that social mapping, vetting and identification of clans and land boundaries are all in order before the development project starts,” Juffa said.
He said a six-month period was given to landowner groups and the Government to resolve any concerns.
He advised landowners to talk to appropriate authorities about investors developing their land.
