TRADE Commerce and Industry Minister Richard Maru says the least the Government can do to show respect for late Anderson Agiru is to start honouring commitments made for Hela and SHP provinces.
Maru said in Parliament on Wednesday when paying tribute to the late governor: “One of his dreams to push the LNG project was to build a robust economy in Hela to ensure there was essential infrastructure for Tari people as well as whole of Hela, who could return to their province and have something they can be proud of.
“While he is lying in waiting for the Lord to come again, the least we can do as the Government is to start honouring commitments we have made for Hela and SHP provinces,” he said.
“I want to place on record I am happy after my visit that this government is building the Gulf and Southern Highlands Highway, the Government is committed and it will be named after him.
“I was happy to be part of the Cabinet when we approved the sealing of the road finally from Komo to Tari and open up that airport,” Maru said.
“We supported the new Hela hydro project and many other projects that are coming up.
“As one of his brothers, I want to assure the people of Hela in Parliament that ministers like me will stand ready to support projects in Hela and Southern Highlands provinces to finally give them some dignity for what they have missed out over the years.”
