Govt staff grilled on performance
The National, Wednesday July 8th, 2015
GOVERNMENT employees have been grilled about their performance and respective roles and responsibilities in delivering services.
National Economic and Fiscal Commission chief executive officer Hohora Suve said the organisation focused on 11 specific priorities that determined planning and budgeting.
Among other priorities, infrastructure and education received 50 per cent of the budget.
“However, at the ground level various challenges and factors hinder the delivery or implementing procedures and that is why we are here today to discuss, share and identify those impediments and find amicable measures on how best we can progress,” Suve told a workshop of provincial and district administrators and programme managers from seven Highlands provinces in two-day workshop in Lae.
He said the government’s reform system was introduced and passed into Law in 1996 but the reform (systems) introduced seem not to deliver to expected standards.
“If services are not reaching expected standards it reflects efforts from various government agencies, their commitment and determination,” Suve said.
Secretary for Rural Development Paul Sai challenged the offices over the concept of “bottom-up planning which is currently stagnant”.
“Since introduction of the bottom-up planning, I have yet to realise the achievement of the concept and we need to review the past, understand today’s situation and develop better PNG for the future,” Sai said.
