A PRIMARY School board chairman in Wampar, Huon Gulf, Morobe, has called on the government to state whether they can enrol drop-outs under the free education policy.
Gabmazung Primary School chairman Lini Sommers raised the concern after six former students attacked board members and teachers.
The six students left school between 2003 and 2005 but turned up at school last Thursday, pleading with teachers and board members to allow them re-enrol in Grade 8 under the new free education policy.
Sommers said the board agreed but told the drop-outs to return home and bring their parents.
But the now teenaged drop-outs vented their anger at that condition by throwing stones at the teachers and forcing students to take cover under tables and behind walls.
Sommers said the incident was reported to Nawaeb police and the six youths had been arrested.
The six appeared in court for mention on Monday and were released on K100 bail each.
“We need the government to come clear on this issue – whether primary schools are allowed to re-enrol former pupils,” Sommers said.
