Govt to embark on policy reviews

THE government in the New Year will embark on several policy reviews.
Treasurer Don Polye said the legislation reviews and amendments were aimed at encouraging and promoting competition and encourage productivity among state institutions.
The policies and acts to be reviewed are:
l National land development programme (NLDP);
l Independent Consumer Competition Commission Act;
l Industry reviews;
l Electricity industry policy (EIP);
l Public private partnership (PPP) legislation;
l housing policy;
l Expanding access
to finance;
l Secured lending legal reform;
l Microfinance expansion project phase II;
l National working group on impediments to business, and
l Small to medium enterprises;
It was revealed that based on the Organic Law on Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) passed by parliament in February last year, an implementation secretariat had been established by the secretaries committee in
August.
The secretaries committee had endorsed the SWF work implementation plan, while more talks are going on with the development partners to help implementation.
