Govt to engage faith groups

THE Government is committed to maintaining partnership with churches that offer greater potential for maximising service delivery improvement, Deputy Prime Minister Leo Dion says.
Dion said the partnership was vital to education as the church had a long and vast experience in running educational institutions in the country.
He said that at the commissioning and dedication of the St Peter Channel Catholic College for Secondary Teacher Education at Ulapia, East New Britain, on Monday.
Dion said because of the important role the churches played, they were allocated K25 million in the 2014 budget.
He said while the Government had given education its priority, it was similarly committed to ensuring the quality of education was improved.
He said the church was an important partner in making sure that quality was achieved.
“This is a huge challenge that cannot be addressed by the Government alone. We have set the overall policy priority.
“It is now up to our education system as well as the higher education institutions, with help from the churches, to continue to challenge themselves to improve the quality of their output into the workforce.”
